ADULT SUPPORT AND PROTECTION
(Often referred to as ASP)
Anyone over the age of 16 who has a mental illness, learning disability, an older person with physical or severe mental illness and is a risk of harm from themselves or others.
Legislation used for people aged 16 or over who are unable to safeguard their own property; rights; welfare and other interests and are more vulnerable to harm.
If you, a friend, a relative or professional has reported a concern and are worried you are at risk of harm.
AN INDEPENDENT ADVOCACY WORKER WILL
- Listen to you and believe what you say,
- Help you say what you want or don’t want,
- Help prepare and support you to meetings and case conferences,
- Help you access the information about decisions you may need to make.
AN INDEPENDENT ADVOCACY WORKER WON’T
- Judge what you say, think or feel,
- Give you advice or tell you what to do or say.
